P'Astra des Chevaloupsgreg Avec Frionariz
Astra known to many people around the world was the first Eurasier Bitch to be Imported to the U.K..
She came to this country with a male our own Diesel from France in April 2000 and served her 6 months in quarantine.
Astra was a loving gentle girl that was full of life and had a superb temperament, she lived to please, and trusted everyone that she met. She and Diesel had a couple of homes before they came to me and also had produced 3 litters of puppies between them. one of whom lives with us and lived with Astra. Although they did not always get on together, they never liked to be far apart from each other.
Astra died on 28th of May 05 after a short illness,
It started in March 05 when Astra got a small cut on her nose, which got infected, although she was treated quite fast for this, it seemed to some how take a hold of her, and caused her Immune System to become Compromised, This in effect started a reaction where her own System was treating her skin as a foreign body and was fighting against it, causing Astra to come out in large amounts of sores and lacerations, and her fur to fall out all over her lovely face and head. She was treated with various medications that seemed to work well to start with, and her sores started to heal, really quite well and gave us hope that all was on the mend. She then took a turn for the worse and several test were carried out on her, and we were told that her system was fighting against her harder than the drugs were helping her.
On the morning of May 27th Astra had again taken a turn for the worse, and the sores and blisters had started to spread to her legs and feet, causing her intense pain, so much that she could not walk, and she was in pain to stand, she had also become incontinent through the drugs she was taking, this was making her very depressed as she was such a clean house dog, and must have thought she was being a bad girl for not being able to control her bladder, although she was never told off for this. She also reached the stage where she seemed scared of me and used to run away when she saw me coming with her tablets, as the only way I could get her to open her mouth to take them was to hold her nose, which was sore and bleeding most of the time, so I had to hurt her to try and help her,!!!!
I decided on that Morning I had to phone the vet and stop Astras pain. We agreed that Now was the time, and agreed to take her over the following morning allowing my family the chance to say goodbye to one of the most wonderful dogs we have ever had the priviledge to know.
Astra was taken to our vets on Saturday morning 28th May and was put peacefully to sleep, laying with her legs over mine and her head on my knees. With the Vets that had treated her through this awful illness there with her to the end.
Rest peaceful dear Astra on a white fluffy cloud blowing in the wind.
Untill we Meet again at the Bridge

For Astra
The wind of time
As you run through the fields in my dreams,
Let the wind blow the pain away,
That you so long did feel,
Let the wind blow my tears away.
So I again can see,
You my sweet ASTRA ,
Run, run, running.
Back to me.
Through the fields and wind that you loved so much,
To the Rainbow bridge, of time.
Where I know you’ll wait for me
And once again be mine.
Mummy. xxxx

These are some of the e-mails of condolence that have been sent to us from freinds of Astra.
I'm sorry I did not know your Astra but she must have been very special. Our
deepest condolences. Sue and Alischa
Sue,
The condition Astra had is reminiscent of something one of the Chows in our extended family had: Nala was riddled with sores over her entire body and all of the examinations and testing turned up no identifying illness but the steroid treatment, other medications, and a complete shaving to bare skin somehow turned her health slowly around. The illness Nala had was never identified, which is scary.Your website is a wonderful tribute to Astra. I’m sure it was not easy to write as it was not easy to read. That was obviously a very difficult experience.
Our condolences for your great loss and I’m glad you have offspring in the family.

Hugs from us all,
